scents of summer
My definitive list of perfume recommendations for a sweet but fleeting summer season:
Her Blossom by Burberry. My absolute signature scent for the last few years. I always reach for it, but in the summer it’s my go to. The sweet scent is light and airy (and receives many compliments). Burberry describes the scent as having, “plum blossom notes, sparkling mandarin, creamy sandalwood and comforting musk notes.” I would say the musk is understated, but balances the rest of the perfume. The bottle has the classic look, even in the smallest size, but is easy to confuse with the other scents in the “Her” collection. Hint: Blossom is the one with the white lid ;)
Dolce Violet by Dolce and Gabbana. This one is new to my collection, and has been competing with “Her” as my number one summer scent. While they’re similar in their sweetness, most likely from the mandarin, their undertones are very different. Dolce and Gabbana describes the scent as having, “accents of violet combined with juicy blackberry and sun-drenched pear, with a base of sandalwood and Madagascan vanilla, and top notes of cassis, Madagascan mandarin, and a floral freshness of cyclamen.” I only reached for this perfume because of a credit I’d received at Macy’s, but I’m very glad that I did. It’s a wonderful addition to my perfume collection, especially for the summer time.
Nectarine Blossom and Honey by Jo Malone. Now this is one of my all time favorite scents. I’ve received quite a few compliments while wearing this. The smell stands out. It’s very sweet, which is how I like my scents (especially in summer), but has a unique quality about it that I enjoy. Jo Malone does encourage the mixing of their colognes, which I haven’t done with this scent. I can imagine if I found another simplistic scent from them that the layers would make mine all the more enticing. But alas, I do not have the nose for mixing perfume, and will probably have to ask a Jo Malone associate for their recommendation. The Jo Malone website describes the cologne as having, “succulent nectarine, peach, cassis, and delicate spring flowers that melt into the note of acacia honey.”
Honorable mentions: Peony and Blush Suede by Jo Malone(my cousins current fav, she mixes it with Jo Malone 154),
Honeysuckle and Davana by Jo Malone(a sample I was given that I can’t get enough of),
and Candy by Prada (perfect for a summer night out).
